Morning Prayers to Start Your Day With God

Some mornings, you wake up feeling ready for the day. Other mornings... not so much. Your alarm goes off, you check your phone, think about everything you have to do, remember that one thing you forgot yesterday, and suddenly your mind is already running before you've even gotten out of bed.

That's why I love the idea of starting the morning with a prayer. Not because you need to have a perfect quiet time every single morning, but I think the first few minutes of your day can be a chance to turn your attention back to God before everything else starts asking for it. So if you're not sure what to pray in the morning, here are a few simple prayers you can come back to.

1. A prayer of gratitude

“God, thank You for giving me another day. Thank You for the people in my life, for the things I sometimes take for granted, and for the chance to start again today. Help me notice the good things instead of rushing past them. Whatever today brings, help me remember that You are with me. Amen.”
You don't have to wake up feeling grateful for everything. Some mornings are hard. But starting with even one thing you're thankful for can help you slow down and recognize what God has already given you.

2. A prayer for guidance

“God, I don't know everything this day is going to bring, but You do. Please guide my decisions today. Give me wisdom when I don't know what to do, patience when things don't go my way, and the courage to choose what is right. Help me trust You instead of trying to control everything myself. Amen.”

3. A prayer for anxiety

“God, You know what's already on my mind this morning. You know what I'm worried about, even the things I haven't told anyone. Please give me peace today. Help me remember that I don't have to figure everything out at once. Give me the strength to take today one step at a time and trust You with what I can't control. Amen.”

4. A prayer for a busy day

“God, I already have so much on my mind today. Help me not to rush through everything and forget what's actually important. Give me patience with people, focus when I'm working, and enough peace to slow down when I need to. Help me be present instead of constantly thinking about what's next. Amen.”

5. A prayer when you don't feel close to God

“God, I don't feel very close to You right now. I don't know exactly why, but I don't want to pretend that I do. Please help me come back to You. Help me want to spend time with You again and recognize Your presence in my everyday life. Thank You for being patient with me. Amen.”
You don't need to wait until you feel spiritual enough to pray. Sometimes the prayer itself is how you start coming back.

6. A prayer for your family and people you love

“God, please take care of the people I love today. Keep them safe, guide them, and give them what they need. Help me be patient, kind, and present with the people around me. And if someone I love is going through something I can't fix, help me trust You with them. Amen.”

7. A simple prayer to surrender the day

“God, I give this day to You. I don't know what will happen, but You do. Help me not to worry about everything before it happens. Whatever today brings, help me trust You, listen to You, and remember that I don't have to carry everything by myself. Go with me through this day. Amen.”

Remember that you don't need a perfect morning routine to start your day with God. Tomorrow, when your alarm goes off, before you get pulled into messages, work, notifications, and everything else waiting for you, give God a few minutes first. Just talk to God in your own words.

Pick one of these prayers, say it slowly, mean the words. And if something in the prayer doesn't quite fit what you're going through, change it. Give God the first few minutes, and let the rest of the day unfold from there.
